at odds of 12-1 | 2 - Platinum Couple(50-1) : Way
too slow and in over his head here | 3 - Hemingway's Key(30-1) : Coming
into the race off 4 consecutive stakes races, unfortunately he was never contending at any point in those 4 races, not good
enough | 4 - Greeley's Legacy(20-1) : This
guy is not that bad, throw out the one race in the slop and you have a guy being very competitive with some of the best 3
year olds in the country in big stakes races, could hit the board at 20-1 odds with some good racing luck, but we prefer others. | 5 - Brother Derek(3-1) : The
cagy old veteran of the field, even though they are all 3 year olds, this guy has the experience edge on the field, and always
puts forward an honest effort, missing the board only twice in his career, in the 2 biggest races in North America, the Kentucky
Derby and the Breeders Cup, it's hard to find any fault with this guy's game, he has won more stakes races than anyone else
in the field, we're thinking he's won too many and others in here are fresher at bigger odds, even if they lack his class | 6 - Barbaro(1-1) : The
Kentucky Derby winner and big favourite to romp in here, what can we say, he has never lost a race, we could be witnessing
a legend in the making, he is the real deal but at those odds we have to look somewhere for value, but you can't ignore this
guy, he has great tactical speed and acceleration, he will be following along just behind Like Now and should power past him
in the stretch, however, for those who look for reasons to bet against him, we have one...All of his races/wins have come
off of long layoffs, this will be his shortest layoff between races in his career, not much of angle, 2 weeks is long enough
for any horse to rest up, unless he is nursing an injury, but that's not the case here, his Derby win was like a morning jog
around the track, he should be fine. | 7 - Sweetnorthernsaint(4-1) : The
Kentucky Derby favourite had a terrible time of it in the Derby, we here, along with many others, thought he would give a
better account of himself in the Derby, and now he is out to avenge that poor performance, and he could pull a surprise in
here, but our thinking is this: Take one jackass(Desormeaux) riding a donkey + me betting him = me being a
horse's ass...sorry, not again at even lower odds, i ain't so dumb | 8 - Bernardini(8-1) : Ladies
and gentlemen, i present you the great Bernardini, who you say is the great Bernardini, he is our dark horse in here, his
last race proved he has speed, and being a son of A.P. Indy we know he wants to go long and is full of class, this will be
his longest race ever, and the longer he goes, the better he gets, this guy is the x-factor that can rain on Barbaro's parade
and our pick to pull off the upset at 8-1 odds, it's still a reach to think Barbaro will get beat, but we gotta go with the
odds and take a shot, even if Barbaro wins, we'll still hit a nice exacta and cash a decent Place payout, which will likely
be higher than Barbaro's Win payout, should he win. | 9 - Diabolical(30-1) : If
anyone can bring in a 30-1 shot in a race like this, it's Ramon Dominguez, he is pure genius, and the leading rider at Pimlico
race track the past few years, but unfortunately it looks like Ramon might even be able to run faster than his horse, and
that's not good news, actually this horse has some speed, and that's the problem, he's bred for speed on both sides, he will
not last the distance, especially with the other speed horse Like Now gunning on the front end, sorry Ramon |
